General Fund We are primarily volunteers but have found after more than 39 years experience that it is helpful to have designated funds for modest business supplies, and to offer an optional stipend to those who sustain the daily operations. Many times these funds come through the board members themselves, so we are very, very appreciative when contributions are made to the general fund. Please consider making a donation, or volunteering for an hour or two. Individual Needs Maria Rivera I am writing to request financial assistance, as a result of unexpected and significant medical expenses due to an emergency open surgery. I am experiencing extreme challenges financially in my monthly budgeting for basic living expenses and medical bills. I need to fully rest for at least six months in order for me to have a successful recovery due to complications and prior continuous health challenges. During this time I won’t be able to work, which means that right now I need all the help I can get while I recover. If you could help me with whatever you can provide, I would be forever grateful. The Caregiver Fund Open Hands makes this fund available to help with expenses incurred by any caregiver: teachers, parents, nurses. We recognize that balance in our lives is fundamental to wellness, and that caregivers need the same caring that they provide to others. Fill out an application to fund a spa day, a retreat, or something that makes your life a little easier. This fund has also been used for tires, gas, rent, and supplies. Donations to this account are most welcome. Michael Parent Michael’s Medical Care Team is celebrating the success of the fundraising campaign for storyteller Michael Parent. We’ve achieved our goal of raising $100,000 toward financing Michael’s move into assisted living in Portland, ME, and his ongoing medical care. We’re grateful for the support and mission of Open Hands Foundation. Michael is happily ensconced in his new digs on the assisted living wing at Park Danforth, in Portland, ME, where he’s getting good care, good food and the medical attention he needs.
